Greek Mental Health Society, Inc. (RSI)  is a peer operated agency that offers recovery-based person centered psychiatric rehabilitation services serving Erie and Genesee Counties.  The agency was founded in 1973 and incorporated in 1975.  RSI customers are adults (18 years and above) diagnosed with serious, long-term psychiatric conditions and individuals with concurrent psychiatric and chemical dependency diagnoses.  Agency programs are rehabilitation communities founded upon the recovery vision that all individuals with mental health conditions can lead active lives filled with hope and satisfaction and make valuable contributions to our community.  A recovery, wellness and life achievement focus promotes and supports the development of new meaning and purpose in one’s life as one grows beyond the challenges of a mental health condition.

Mission.  1) To assist each individual to tap into natural supports in the community as s/he transitions from professional  supports; and, 2) To offer services that help the individual transition from dependence upon the mental health service delivery system to full integration,  participation and independence in preferred community environments.

Vision. To provide an environment that inspires,  enhances and facilitates personal recovery, wellness and life achievement; a  place that encourages customers to actively participate in their communities, and facilitates participation through support and assistance related to skill
and resource acquisition/polishing; and efforts that help each person 1) to reignite his/her personal passions and to connect with others in the community who share such passions; 2) to tap into community resources and to build friendships & social networks; and 3) to accumulate desired advantages – a job, a house, a car, a family, etc

Greek Mental Health Society, Inc. offers holistic, person-centered services premised upon customer self-determination and self-direction.  The primary service approach is life coaching and the fundamental outcome is community integration.  Programs embracing life coaching strategies facilitate the customer’s personal life direction, development and fulfillment.  Utilizing life coaching technologies within the context of wellness, RSI assists individuals with serious psychiatric conditions to achieve and maintain personal satisfaction in overall quality of life, integration into self-selected communities and attainment of basic life needs.   Life Coaching is a learning and change process which is action and result-oriented, present focused, and is designed to both foster and mentor hope, acceptance, personal discovery and self-direction.  RSI facilitates recovery with the use of Life Coaching strategies to assist individuals in recovery goal setting, recovery road map action planning, skill development and behavioral change.  In short, life coaching strategies assist the customer to increase independence, achieve desired social roles, and community integration and connectedness while reducing reliance on professional supports.

Our services include self-help, peer support, parenting support, educational, vocational, homeless and residential services, criminal justice and hospital diversion and re-entry services and social rehabilitation programs.  All of our services are designed to encourage individual goals and aspirations by providing choice, opportunity and self-determination.  We offer support, assistance and friendship in an empowering atmosphere where our customers can become involved in meaningful activities and self-help endeavors.  Emphasis is place on individualized training and support in the community.  Activities are prioritized within the context of each person’s self-defined goals.
